According to a recent Gallup Poll, two-thirds of Americans say chiropractic care is effective for neck and back pain. In addition, more than 33 million U.S. adults saw a chiropractor last year. These results show a strong propensity towards using a chiropractor to alleviate head, neck and back pain.

This poll was the first-ever nationally representative annual survey of U.S. adults that measured perceptions of and experiences with chiropractic care. Chiropractic care focuses on the well-being and performance enhancement of the average adult and can help improve the quality of life for an individual without drugs or surgery. The study surveyed 5,442 adults, aged 18 and older, in the U.S.

These results also show that many adults have a positive perception of chiropractors. Another interesting tidbit is that about half of U.S. adults have seen a chiropractor. Roughly 14% of respondents, roughly 33 ½ million U.S. adults, have seen a chiropractor within the last 12 months. However, roughly 1 in 4 adults last visited a chiropractor over five years prior, with another 49% never having been to a chiropractor.

A significant fact popped up in the surveyed showed that while there are very little demographic differences among those who recently experienced chiropractic care, there are serious differences among those who have and have not visited them.

According to the survey, adults aged 35 and older are much more likely to seek chiropractic care than younger adults. African Americans are less likely than whites or Hispanics to have seen a chiropractor. Men are less likely to visit one then women as well.

In summary, the vast majority of Americans believe that chiropractic care is an excellent choice for those who experience severe head, neck and back pain. It stands to reason then, that this alternative care is an excellent idea for all well-informed adults.
