A look at some of the questions we hear most when it comes to Chiropractic care and treatment – this list is especially good for first-timers and newcomers to our office!
What conditions do chiropractors treat?
Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs), care for patients of all age groups and health conditions. DCs specialize in back pain, neck pain and headaches, particularly focusing on skilled manipulations and chiropractic adjustments. A wide variety of injuries and physical disorders that afflict the musculoskeletal system are also treatable using chiropractic care. Nervous system disorders, injuries, and dysfunction of the area surrounding an injury, can also be treated by a chiropractor. The benefits offered by these highly skilled caretakers include counsel on diet, nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle modifications.
Is it safe for children?
Children greatly benefit from chiropractic care. Because of their physically active nature, they may experience injuries and even blows from daily activities. This could lead to injury and disorders of the musculoskeletal system as the child grows. Chiropractic care can prevent further injury and relieve pain associated with the strenuous activity children partake in. It is gentle enough for children and completely safe.
How are chiropractors educated?
Doctors of chiropractic care are educated as primary contact health care providers, but specialize in diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system. Interestingly, the educational requirements for doctors of chiropractic are some of the most rigid and strict of any health care profession. Once an individual has attended four years of pre-medical undergraduate college education, they also must complete chiropractic college, which is typically four to five more academic years of professional study.
The total curriculum for chiropractors is a minimum of 4,200 hours of laboratory, clinical and classroom experience. The course of study is accredited and recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Does insurance cover chiropractic?
Yes. Most health insurance plans cover chiropractic care. This would include Medicare, some Medicaid plans, and Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.
